I'm trying to choose the right genre using the Simple interface but there isn't an exact match for my track. It's an older track that I'm trying to refresh. What do the various genres do and does it matter which genre I choose?
Thanks,
Brad
First of all, thanks for using our service.
Our various preset Genres are fairly broad based on the experiences of our audio engineers. They work for a majority of tracks in each Genre, but they’re only a guide – a set of labels for varying presets. It’s a little “one size fits all”, which is why the Advanced Interface is there for the experts who want more control over their mix.
It’s hard to know from here what’s going to work best for your track. Users with experience mastering older tracks have told us that experimentation has given them great results. As an example, they’ve found apparently odd choices such as “Folk” or “Singer Songwriter” sometimes work best for some tracks, even though they’re definitely not Folk Music. The best preset for a particular track may actually be from a Genre you don’t expect – they’re only labels after all.
If you don't find a Genre that's an exact match for your track, you can send us more details or upload the track and we'll ask our engineers to add a new Genre that does the job for you. Otherwise, in the short term, experimentation outside the box is probably your best option, unless you decide to “dive under the hood” with the Advanced Interface.
